Kilnhurst Man Calls For An End To ‘Racist’ Black Friday

A Kilnhurst man has called for Black Friday to be re-branded, claiming that the current name is overtly racist.

Black Friday is the last Friday of November, and has become widely  known as the day when big discounts can be had from online and offline retailers, but Ray Steele believes the name carries sinister racial undertones, and panders to base racial stereotypes.

“It’s disgraceful” he told us “A discount is clearly a positive thing, so associating it with the word ‘black’ implies the opposite of black,  which is white, must be negative. The obvious conclusion to be drawn is that white is inferior to black. I can’t believe nobody else has complained.”

A spokesman for the British Retail Consortium told us that the name Black Friday arises out of the fact that it’s historically the day where US retailers eventually go into profit – into the black – during a years trading, and so the actual opposite in this context,  is red.

Ray remains unconvinced though, “I’m not going to allow facts or common sense to impact on my underlying and free-floating  sense of outrage and injustice” he told us. “It’s wrong and it’s got to stop.” He is now campaigning for Black Friday to be replaced by Beige Thursday next year, which he claims would be fairer all round.
