Rotherham High Flyers To Get Huge Cash Windfall

High flyers in the town were celebrating this week after Chancellor Philip Hammond used his Autumn statement to announce the release of a new national savings bond paying a whopping 2.2% interest a year.

The Bugle understand that as many as twenty local residents have the £3,000 in savings needed to take full advantage of the unexpected windfall. It means they can earn an eye watering £66 a year on their money, which is an incredible £32 more than  is available in other National savings accounts.

Range Rover driving Frank Windsor from Wickersley was still euphoric when we caught up with him two days after the announcement. “I can’t believe it, we’re still reeling and on  cloud nine and that” he told us “We’re still deciding what to do with all the extra cash. My missus wants to blow it all on a trip to Whitbys at Catcliffe and have the large fish and extra mushy peas. But I’m a bit more cautious and favour a series of small confectionery treats throughout the year.”

Not everyone was so impressed by the new account though. To get a view from the other end of the economic spectrum, we spoke to Ted Case who sleeps rough in the town centre, as he stocked up on White Lightening. “I haven’t got £3,000, but even if I did, I couldn’t be arsed filling out the paperwork for an extra £32 a year” he told us  “I can make more than that in half an hour raiding skips.”
