Anti-Semitism Questions Grow As Corbyn Fails To Explain Why He Chose Arsenal Over Spurs

Jeremy Corbyn was facing fresh questions over links with anti-semitism tonight afer it emerged that he is a fervent Arsenal fan. Arch local rivals Tottenham Hotspur are well known for their close association with the Jewish community and questions are being asked as to why Corbyn shunned the fellow north Londoners in favour of a team whose stadium was built with money from an Arab airline.

A spokesperson for the Labour leader denied any wrongdoing tonight “Jeremy has been an Arsenal fan since the age of eight,” she said “He just liked the colour of the shirts and all his friends were Arsenal fans. There’s no more to it than that.”

Whether this satisfies the concerns of those worried about a growth of anti-semitism in the Labour party remains to be seen. In a letter of apology to the Jewish people this week, Corbyn recognised the rise of anti-Semitism within his party. Many of those receiving that letter may well now see his  clear and brutal  rejection of Spurs as evidence that the ill-feeling may have emanated from the top, and been deeply ingrained from an early age.
