2018-04-03
As Winnie Mandela, ex-wife of Nelson Mandela, passed away at the age of 81, it was announced that a local Soweto football team will hold a minutes torture before next weekends game as a mark of respect to the former freedom fighter who had a reputation for a robust approach to achieving her aims.
A fellow activist who was close to Mandela said “We were looking for a fitting way to mark Winnie’s passing, and I think we’ve found it. She worked flat out and tirelessly for what she believed in and went where angels fear to tread depite being under tremendous pressure. I’m sure she’d have approved of what we’re doing.”
The Bugle understands that the torture is only intended be symbolic in nature, but fire extinguishers will be on hand should there be any danger of damage to the playing surface.
