A Rotherham man has starved to death after trying to survive on nothing but Marks and Spencer meals for two. Toby Tubbs from Rawmarsh, used to weigh a healthy 18 stones until he took on what friends and family warned him was a reckless challenge. When he passed away last week, he weighed just 6 stones and was less than two months into the challenge.
“It was terrible to see,” said wife Janice “He would eat the meal in about 10 seconds and then I could see the haunted look on his little face when he realised that was it. But he wouldn’t give in. He was eating the boxes as well by week five, but he just wasted away in the end.”
Health experts have warned others not to attempt to copy Toby. “This needs to serve as a warning to others,” said Amanda Forts from the Institute Of Applied Grub Knowledge “Putting ‘Meal For Two’ on the packaging is going to misslead some people into thinking that there is enough food there to keep two people alive. So one person eating it doesn’t seem much of a risk. But anyone who has ever bought one of these will know that you would be fuller if you ate your own fingernails. People should treat these as canapes.”
A spokesperson for Marks & Spencers denied any reponsibility, “Our meals for two are perfectly safe as part of a balanced diet,” he said “The term ‘Meal For Two’ is for marketing purposes and not meant to be taken literally. You can have ‘tea for two’ but it’s not all you’d eat, is it?”
