Hope for Barnsley film makers as non-English language film wins top Oscar

There was hope for Barnsley film-makers last night as south Korean film Parasite was named best picture at this year’s Oscars, becoming the first non-English language film to take the top prize. It means that films made in Dingle may now be opened up to wider audiences for the first time.
“We’ve always felt that having our films dubbed into English was a big drawback” said local Director/Producer Sid Postlethwaite speaking to the Bugle through an interpreter “but the success of Parasite gives us inspiration and hope that one day, films made in Dingle will become more widely accepted.”
That day may still be a long way off though. Linguists have been quick to point out that the Korean language is more accessible and easier on the ear than Dingle to most English speakers. It’s a language that is almost impossible to listen to comfortably by people living as little as 10 miles away. “Maybe if they try a silent film” one language expert told us. “Like Charlie Caplin or Buster Keaton used to make. The place is already in black and white, so that might work.”
