William Hill to offer odds on supermarket fights
2020-03-21
Beleaguered bookmakers, who have seen their income slump as most major sports events have been cancelled, are now offering odds on supermarket fights it has emerged.
The Bugle understands that William Hill is just one of a number of bookmakers that have urgently recruited check out staff in all major UK supermarkets, who are primed to stream live footage to the companies websites as soon as something looks like kicking off.
“It’s a new idea but we’re hopeful this can go a long way to replace our football and horse racing revenue” an insider told The Bugle “It sounds crap but there’s something intriguing about an 80 year old pensioner battling it out with a wiry youth over the last pack of budget bog roll. It makes Fury v Wilder look like a picnic and doesn’t always go the way you expect. That makes for an exciting betting event. Our odds setters are going to be on their toes. These old buggers are tougher than you might expect.”
Bookmakers are looking at a number of ideas to make up the shortfall in revenue, but there’s one betting market all the major players are steering clear of – the factor by which suicides over the next three months will exceed the number of people succumbing to the Covid-19 virus “The way the media is battering people 24/7 at the moment, it’s impossible to price up” our insider confided.
