Candlelight vigil outside Greggs in Barnsley as thousands pray for another Easter resurrection

Social distancing rules were swept aside in a wave of emotion last night, as thousands gathered outside a Barnsley branch of Greggs. The impromptu candelight vigil marked Easter Sunday, with many in the crowd clinging to the hope that the day might mark another miraculous rising from the dead.

“If Jesus could come back after being nailed up on that cross, I can’t see why someone can’t switch the pie ovens back on.” said Jim Clunge from Wombwell as he held his candle in the air. “Miracles can happen and we’re hoping to see one tonight. You can’t live on stuff you’ve warmed up in your own microwave for ever.”

As The Bugle went to press, all Greggs branches remained closed and Jim Clunge was telling anyone who would listen that the Easter story “must be bollocks.”
