Barnsley schoolkids glad to be back playing truant

There was relief in Barnsley this morning as the schools re-opened and local kids could return to playing truant. For many, it has been the first opportunity to bunk off since March.
“It’s been difficult for a lot of our young people” said Tony Clunge, head of Wombwell Academy in the town “A lot of them have really missed the pretence of setting off for school with their uniform on and then turning round and meeting up with their mates in the park with a few bottles of White Lightening and some roll ups. You can only go on so long before that gets to you.”
Nathan Scroat, one of the youngsters affected by the school closures agrees “Bunking off gives you a reason to get up in the morning” he told The Bugle. “It gives a structure to your day which we’ve just not had. It got so bad at one point that I started doing schoolwork in my bedroom.”
The Bugle understands that local schools are working around the clock to ensure that truants are able to quickly catch up with any general pissing about they’ve missed out on over the past few months.
