Plumber Tight-Lipped About Overnight Tool Storage Arrangements

A Rotherham plumber has stunned friends and colleagues by refusing to reveal whether he keeps any tools in his van overnight.

Ted Rogers from Chaucer Road says that his tool storage arrangements are nobody else’s business, and he has absolutely no intention of putting any kind of  signage on his 2007 Renault van, informing the public where he’s decided to keep them.

“I blame social media” Ted, 42, told us when we caught up with him as he put the finishing touches to an insurance claim. “It’s over-sharing. Why do these other plumbers think the public are interested in where they store their tools? It’s just arrogance in my view. They’re  not pop stars or owt. They just fix leaks and that. They need to get over themselves.”

We put Ted’s comments to Sid Stanley of the local plumbers alliance. “ You know Ted Rodgers? He’s a….”  he said, while making a hand movement  reminiscent of removing the excess water from a vertical pipe with a towel – a gesture which we assume to be special code only other plumbers would understand.

Other local traders were more sympathetic though.  Kevin Colley from local greengrocer Colley & Flowers agrees with Ted,  “Most of these plumbers think they’re ‘it’” he told us, “Just because they’ve got a city and guilds certificate and a set of spanners. I don’t keep any spuds in the back of my van overnight, but I don’t make a song and dance about it.”

This isn’t the first time Ted has hit the headlines. Regular readers will remember how he came under fire back in 2016, when he transported both a baby and some show dogs in his vehicle without mentioning it.
