Northerner Still Telling Everyone Price Of Pint In London

A northerner is still telling everyone he meets the price of a pint of beer in London, three weeks after taking a day trip to the capital.

Arthur Brain, 73, from Barnsley, took advantage of a cheap off-peak return trip to ‘that London’ with his wife Gladys last month. After visiting Harrods and buying the cheapest thing in the shop to get a monogrammed carrier bag, the couple retired to a nearby hostelery for a drink.

“I couldn’t ‘effin believe it” Arthur has never tired of telling everyone he meets since, “£5.45 for a pint o’ bitter. You can get eight pints for that in our club, and a packet of pork scratchings. I was going to get a drink four our lass but not at them prices.”

Arthur says he made the drink last all afternoon before walking back to Kings Cross where he and a dehydrated Gladys boarded a train back to south Yorkshire.

“I just want my story to serve as a warning to others.” he told the Bugle. “That’s why I’m telling it to everyone I meet, and some of ’em twice. It’s hard to keep track of who you’ve told but better to be safe than sorry.”
