There have been calls to rip down the statue of Eric Morecambe statue, sited in his home town of Morecambe, after it emerged that the popular comedian had an unpaid parking ticket.
An angry mob descended on the monument earlier this morning and attempted to remove it from its plinth, but gave up when their arthritis started to play up.
“It’s disgusting.” said Doris Wilkinson 82, who had travelled all the way from the next street to take part in the protest, “I used to be a huge fan before all this came out but now I want this statue down.”
“I always thought he was a bit iffy with all that sleeping in the same bed with Ernie and this proves it” said Ada Frost 84, also from the next street. “It’s bringing shame on the town. I know it was different times and all that, but still…”
The Bugle understands that the unpaid parking ticket dates back to March 1984. Morecambe died in May of the same year
