Fears grow in Barnsley for a ‘lost generation’ unable to eat a pasty out of a bag

As Greggs announced the reopening of 1,800 stores for takeaway food this morning, there were growing fears in Barnsley for a lost generation of toddlers who haven’t developed the basic skills of eating a pastry-based product out of a bag while on the move.
For many children in the borough, their first experience of solid food comes when mum thrusts the familiar blue and white Greggs bag into their hands and utters the words passed down through the generations, “’Here, eyt that and shurrup yer little get.”
“It’s a worry.” said mum of five Mandy Clunge, speaking through an interpreter. “My youngest is nearly one now and hasn’t had so much as a sausage roll on the go. All my others were ambidextrous on sweet and savoury by this age. I’m concerned he’ll never catch up, and he gets into his late teens and can’t even eat a Big Mac with milkshake while driving his Nova.”
“We would like to apologise to all customers for having to suspend our services due to Coronavirus.” a spokesperson for Greggs told The Bugle “We’re only too aware of how important child development is, and look forward to getting Barnsley toddlers back on track in the coming weeks and months.”
