Barnsley Brexiteer Has Last Laugh As Eurotunnel Is Renamed

Travellers on both sides of the channel were left scratching their heads this week after Eurotunnel was officially rebranded as Getlink. The French owners said that a rebranding was necessary in preparation for the post-Brexit era and that the company had chosen an Anglo-Saxon sounding name, to mark the transition. But the Rotherham Bugle has uncovered the real story behind the change.

The parent company employed the services of London based branding consultants Bull Blather,  to come up with the new name. A  spokesperson at the company,  failed miserably in an attempt to keep a straight face when we spoke to him this morning. “We can’t believe they went for it,” he told us. “We’ve got this rabid Brexiteer from Barnsley in the design team, who’s always banging on about ‘them foreign gets over ‘t channel’. Anyway, he drew up this joke idea, called Getlink, because the tunnel links us to ‘them foreign gets’. The client should never have seen it, but it got mixed in with all the proper ideas. They loved it. They might just as well have called it Twatlink, Bastardlink or Titheadlink.”

We tried to speak to the French owners of Getlink this morning, but the person who answered the phone said that all available personnel were poring over a dictionary of English regional colloquialisms.
